Leaky Palapa Restaurant – Updated Feb. 5, 2021

UPDATE: Linda and Marla decided not to come for the 2020/2021 season. As the land border between the US and Canada are restricted as well as the land border from the US to Mexico, they didn’t think they could safely make it down during this COVID-19 Pandemic. We are hoping they come back for the 2021/2022 season.

UPDATE: Linda and Marla are back for the 2017/18 Season! They opened the week before US Thanksgiving. They have added new items including a fried cheese ravioli appetizer, Chipotle Burger, Marla’s Fish and Chips and a Tuna mole that are all fantastic. I should know, I’ve tried them all already 🙂

Last year Linda and Marla the talent behind the Leaky Palapa ran it as a “Supper Club” where they would have a set menu and only a certain number of seats. It was delicious as usual and fun to bring people to. This year, they have gone back to running it as a regular restaurant. So we have a great fine dining restaurant in Xcalak again!

The Leaky Palapa has always been one of my favorite places to eat anywhere. I have said many times it is in my global top ten restaurants. And even now I can’t think of 10 restaurants in the world that I would rather eat at. I have eaten in some of the best restaurants in some of the biggest cities, places like Tokyo, Bangkok, Beijing, Sydney, London, Chicago, New York, LA, etc.

Some of their signature dishes, include a handmade Huitlacoche ravioli, if you come in season (July through Feb) you can try the handmade Lobster Huitlacoche ravioli. Huitlacoche is called a “Mexican Truffle” as it is brimming with umami and adds a richness that you will not find in anything else. And I always get the Cesar Salad with Cheese collar. Not sure what they do to that cheese collar, but it is delicious. Pork Ossobucco, Pasilla crusted Pork Tenderloin, mmmmm. Needless to say, if you can make it , it will be a highlight.

They are only open Friday, Saturday and Sundays and do frequently sell out, so if you are coming to stay with us and would like to try it, let us know early and we can get you a reservation. They are planning to be here through about April give or take so if you come to the end of the road here in Xcalak. Make it a priority to get to the Leaky Palapa. Price: 350-500 Pesos/10-15 USD for most entrees Ambiance: Located in the Leaky Palapa restaurant, it has easy lighting and nice wooden tables and chairs. They also have a nice bar area for the cocktails.
