If you are on a daytrip to Bacalar, or to the ruins at Dzibanche and you want to get some good food. Give Savora Bakhalal a try. It is an Italian restaurant right on the main square near the San Filiipe Museum The proprietor, Sandro, is actually the guy who owns Vivero Milagros, the place where we bought all of our plants for our place. He decided that Bacalar needed a good Italian restaurant and opened Savora Bakhalal last year. I had been meaning to eat at his place for a

The little town of Pedro Santos is just a few Kilometers south of the Cafetal Road turnoff to Mahahual and Xcalak. It is on 307 heading toward Chetumal. So if you are going on a day trip to the Mayan ruins at Dzibanche or Kohunlich or to Chetumal for the Mayan Museum or the San Filipe Museum you will drive right through what we call Piña Alley. Pedro Santos has dozens of roadside fruit stands clustered around every tope or speed bump, where they will sell pineapples for as little as 50 pesos for 5 small pineapples.

This is one that you can come to on the way to the Inn as well as on a day-trip. Rancho 5KM, is surprise, 5KM from the turn off of 307. So as you pass Limones on 307 and make the turn west on the Cafetal Road, at the 5KM mark look to the left and you will see a small building and sign for salsas. Pull over. The proprietor does speak some English. What you will find there are home made habanero salsas in a variety of

One of the updates we have been waiting to do is upgrade the exterior doors of the Inn. The old doors were hollow and used the weird Mexican locks that are really hard to use. There were also the aluminum screen doors that were falling apart. We have so much beautiful wood in theYucatan that it is shame not to use it. It is a different process here. I had to go buy the wood at a sawmill, then let it dry for about 6 weeks, and

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA UPDATE: Linda and Marla decided not to come for the 2020/2021 season. As the land border between the US and Canada are restricted as well as the land border from the US to Mexico, they didn't think they could safely make it down during this COVID-19 Pandemic. We are hoping they come back for the 2021/2022 season. UPDATE: Linda and Marla are back for the 2017/18 Season! They opened the week before US Thanksgiving. They have added new items including a fried cheese ravioli appetizer, Chipotle

Last week we went to a presentation for a reef restoration project that is happening in Xcalak. It is being conducted by a non-governmental organization (NGO) called Oceanus. The founders Gabriela and Miguel were on hand to explain the program and take us to the sites where the program is being executed. The technique that they use is a novel one. They find pieces of elkhorn coral that have broken off, but not yet died. They then break the pieces into smaller pieces. These smaller pieces they ziptie

Will definitely update

It's been a while since I have gone out with Chucho, (I'll have to change that ;) But when I have gone out with him, he is a machine for finding permit. He also has some insight into finding tarpon, especially
